Our story
Discover The Lord Lyndoch
Nestled in the heart of the Barossa Valley, The Lord Lyndoch has been bringing people together for generations. From its rich heritage and connection to the region's winemaking history to the warm hospitality you'll experience today, every visit is part of a story nearly two centuries in the making.
A Rich History
A Story That Began in 1837
The story of The Lord Lyndoch began in 1837, where a vacant parcel of land formed part of Lyndoch's early farming community before being purchased by the renowned Penfolds family in the 1930s.
A wine depot was constructed and first used during the 1936 vintage, playing its own part in the Barossa's celebrated winemaking history.
Today, that heritage remains woven throughout the building. Our Cellar function space was once part of the original grape storage facility, with sections of the original footings still visible, offering guests a unique connection to the region's past.
Between 1964 and 2004, the building became a local institution, first operating as a delicatessen before becoming the much-loved Postkutsche Cellar Restaurant, renowned for its traditional German cuisine and warm hospitality. 2004 The Lord Lyndoch was born.
A New Chapter
Celebrating the Best of the Barossa
In 2021, Mandy proudly became the owner of The Lord Lyndoch, continuing the building's long tradition as a place where people gather to share good food, great conversation and memorable moments.
As a family-owned business, Mandy's vision has always been simple—to create a welcoming destination where locals and visitors alike feel at home. A place that celebrates the Barossa's incredible produce, supports local growers, winemakers and artisans, and reflects the generosity and community spirit that make the region so special.
Today, our menu showcases fresh, seasonal modern Australian cuisine, thoughtfully prepared using quality local ingredients wherever possible.
It's complemented by a carefully curated selection of Barossa wines, South Australian craft beers and genuine country hospitality delivered through relaxed, personalised table service.
